day 1 y'all

So I've done it! I've reached New York, and not just for a measly day. Today I saw bits and pieces. At times, the city was my Mythic Holy End, swelling with hope and anxiety and pain and dirt and sweat. At other times, the city was the plastic vegas facsimile New York. I think this has more to do with me than the city itself, but even so.

My apartment is on the right!

It's amazing what eagerness can do - getting lost and the subway would have been stressful were it not for the fact that everything was vibrating with sheer vital newness! Beautiful sights and signs, sounds, people too. I have to remember to take my holga out tomorrow. My parents and I rode the F train from my apartment down to Essex street where the office of Dress Code is. The lower east side has real charm, those beautiful rusty garage doors and sticker ridden poles. I'm so excited that I'll be spending most of my time around there. There's this really sweet market with spices and fruits and captain crunch on Essex street too. I'll have to chase the ghosts of the strokes and the velvet underground around.

Tomorrow I start work! I'll let you know how it goes.
